Ugo Nwoke was born on April 20, 1985, into the prestigious Nwoke family in Awo Omamma, Imo State, Nigeria. His full name, Ugochukwu Emmanuel Nwoke, indicates that he is of Southeastern Nigerian and Igbo ethnicity, with “Ugochukwu” meaning “Dog of God” or “Glory of God”. Raised in the affluent village of Awo Omamma, Ugo Nwoke spent his childhood surrounded by his parents, siblings and extended family. His parents worked hard to provide for the family, and Ugo Nwoke grew up in a traditional Nigerian environment that instilled strong moral values from an early age. His parents and relatives taught Ugo Nwoke Igbo customs and traditions. He was raised in a Catholic household and regularly attended mass at his local parish from a young age. After more than a decade with ToChi Technologies Inc. at the University of California, Berkeley, Ugo Nwoke left his position as chief product officer to pursue his goal of starting his own career in the automotive industry. Tired of building a career for someone else, he started his own company: In the mid-2000s, Ugo acquired Avotronics Powertrain Inc., where he currently serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
