Ndegwa Njiru Biography: Ndegwa Njiru was not a popular lawyer with most Kenyans until recently. He has proved to be a lawyer par excellence and it is a joy watchinghim representing his high profile clients.When he represented the Kirinyaga MCAs in the case against governor Anne Waiguru Kenyans were mesmerized by his well thought out arguments.

Growing up he wanted to be a lawyer and he has ended up being a very good one at it. It is his belief that everyone needs to take up the mantle of righting the wrongs in the society and that lawyers are the building blocks in seeking social justice in economic and political growth.

 

Ndegwa Njiru Early Life

This accomplished lawyer hails from Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County. His father was a teacher and would take him to court hearings from an early age.

“Back in 1993, Mzee, a teacher by profession, started taking us to court and unknowingly became our mentor,” he told The Star.

Ndegwa has three brothers, two sisters and is a father of two children.

Mr. Ndegwa attended Kerugoya Municipal School and then Kianyaga High School. After excelling in high school, he went on to study law at Kampala International University. After leaving Kampala, he attended the Kenya Law School.

Ndegwa Njiru Career

He was called to the Bar in 2011 and has now been practising as a lawyer for just nine years.

As a lawyer, he is known for the following activities:

Representing MCAs in the case against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. In this trial he questioned the defence witnesses so skilfully that they were left speechless and stunned at the same time. He also organised the witnesses to ensure there were no gaps in their testimony.

His career has been marked by representing high profile clients including county governors facing impeachment proceedings. Some of his most notable cases include:

Anne Waiguru: Ndegwa represented Kirinyaga MCA in her case against Governor Anne Waiguru. His well-crafted arguments and tactical cross-examination left a strong impression on both the court and the public.

Martin Wambora: Ndegwa successfully represented Embu Governor Martin Wambora in his impeachment trial and obtained a court order restoring Wambora as governor.

Ferdinand Waititu: Ndegwa is representing defendant Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu in his suit for reinstatement. He alleges that due process was not followed in the impeachment and swearing-in of his successor, Mr James Nyoro.

Mike Sonko: Ndegwa is also involved in the impeachment proceedings against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and represents Nairobi County Assembly.

Apart from these cases, Ndegwa, along with LSK Municipal Councillor George Omwanza, filed a petition calling for changes to rules for new lawyers in Kenya, asserting their right to set up practice without completing the mandatory two-year training course.

Ndegwa runs his own law firm, Ndegwa and Ndegwa Advocates, working alongside his brother and wife.

Ndegwa Njiru keeps his personal life private. He is married and has two children, though details about his wife and family life are not publicly disclosed. Despite his high-profile career, Ndegwa remains purpose-driven, focusing on his objectives rather than the obstacles he faces.
